Vratislav Brabenec

Evžen lives a bohemian life in Prague. An unexpected trip back to his homeland Switzerland confronts him with the smuggled crocodile Karlchen, his father’s sustained delusion and the grotesque charm of the bourgeoisie.

Journalist Renata Kalenská’s book of interviews with Vratislav Brabenec, prominent member of the Plastic People group, recorded not only his memories of the underground years, but also the author’s experiences with this highly distinctive individual. The film represents a cinematic sequel to the book, and looks to build on those experiences as it captures additional interviews with Brabenec, mainly improvised talks at places that hold some meaning for Brabenec or Kalenská. The result is several scenes of irrelevant philosophising, self-deprecating humour, and commentary on the life of birds, and on nature in general. The conversations, recorded mostly by hand-held camera, are interspersed with poetic citations.

The unpunished injustice brings three former prisoners into the small town – once they were bothered by the same StB agent. And this man owns the inn in this town now. These three men decide to take the justice into their own hands, but they find out that they have no talent for that... They meet femme fatale and give her emotion and place for living. In return she shows them the difference between the revenge and the punishment. They all go through eastern.

Olga Havlová was the closest and most trustworthy companion of Václav Havel. A friend who was always generous with her time. She was an entertaining host, passionate games-player, mushroom-gatherer, nature-lover, sharp commentator, and courageous and diligent dissident. In 1990 she founded Výbor dobré vûle (Committee of Good Will), which is still doing vital work today.

The story takes place in the small town of Podlesie, which was once invaded by the Turks. The good fairies were - in good faith - asked for help, but it consisted in hurting others. This has not brought happiness to the town, and it needs to be put right... Perhaps the young blacksmith's nephew Tonko will succeed.

Three "retired" punks with wilted mohawks and their corpulent female companion spend their time drinking beer and chatting, uncompromisingly condemning Western civilization. Since they claim that freedom is their highest imperative, they decide to kidnap Kisoro, a teenage gorilla from the zoo, "so she can menstruate freely." However, after the "rescue mission," they begin to prostitute her in zoophilic porn on the internet...

Tůma's film is a sovereign cinematographic space, which, broken up into many chapters, takes an unconventional look at contemporary Czech society. The opening political grotesque on the election of the President is drowned out by the ecstatic ramblings of philosophising (and chattering) fragments turning on the sought-out axis of life and the world, and especially the inward-looking images full of colourful objectivity and charming humour that is elevated to the level of pure poetry.
