A documentary about Croatian immigrants' soccer clubs, especially the Croatia Toronto soccer club, and their significance to the Croatian diaspora as well as Croatia itself.

The movie takes place in the early 18th century on the borders between Bosnia and Dalmatia, the crossroad between the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Venice. It deals with issues relating to the region's native Croats as they struggle between to live between two empires and two faiths: Catholicism and Islam.

A young couple have settled in a new flat. Soon somebody begins watching them and they receive great amounts of money from an unknown sender.

'Malo Misto' lives its own life, but not far behind the times. Hotel manager Roko Prč strives to organise tourism, so he introduces the first nudist beach. His wife Anđa brings two of her cousins from the Dalmatian hinterland and demands Roko to hire them. One of them, a young man named Ikan, earns the attention of a beautiful Swedish tourist. From Chile to Malo Misto returned Tonči, nicknamed Servantes, of course, without any money. He fell on the back of his hardworking aunt Keka, who even without him has enough problems of her own. Servantes also experiences an unexpected romance.

The story describes a staid and apparently very ordinary Austrian teacher on holiday on the Southern Adriatic coast. The sensation of renewal and refreshment from the sea, sun and salt air is described in physical terms.

The story of the Dubrovnik landowner Nikša Prokulić, who fiercely opposes romance between his daughter Jela and the Czech officer Marek, member of the Austro-Hungarian army that occupied their city in 1814, after the departure of the French. The story of the final downfall of the Republic of Dubrovnik thus also becomes the story of the agony of an ancient aristocratic family.

Through Šimun’s conflict with the head of the new agricultural cooperative, where he is forced to work in order to feed his family, the changes that land reclamation has brought to everyday life in the Neretva Valley are depicted, destroying the traditional way of life.
