Relationships between mothers and daughters are often very complex. Love and protective instincts, recognition and pride play just as important a role as patronization and envy, dependency and jealousy. This documentary allows prominent mother-daughter pairs to have their say, being surprisingly open about birth and puberty, growing up, sexuality and old age.

Christmas Eve at the 14th precinct. While his colleagues go on duty, Dirk Matthies takes off. He has logged off from everyone to escape the Christmas hustle and bustle and enjoy a cozy solo evening on board his ship in peace and quiet. But then something bangs on the ship's planks which, on closer inspection, turns out to be what Dirk least wanted to see that evening: Santa Claus himself is there - and looks quite confused. After a moment's hesitation, Dirk agrees to drive the chaotic old man to his first job.

Housewife Marie is surprised by the tragic death of her husband. Suddenly she has to look after her family alone. Fortunately, her husband was an entrepreneur, so she takes over his business. To her astonishment, however, she discovers that the business is a pornographic film production company. She overcomes her aversion to the industry and leads “MarieX” to its former success. In the process, she also falls in love with the attractive porn actor Roy.

Summer 1969: The Americans fly to the moon and Johanna's life gets into turmoil. While her family spends some days in Hamburg, the hostess stays alone on the secluded Hallig to accommodate a guest. The hydraulic engineer Anton Brunner will carry out the necessary investigations so that the Halligs can be supplied with fresh water from the mainland. In these summer days, Anton and Johanna fall in love with each other passionately. When her family comes back, she has to make a decision.

Dark-skinned Stella was adopted as a baby, but before she gets married, she wants to meet her birth mother. However, the first meeting is a shock: her mother Beate is a white redneck who sits at the supermarket checkout and secretly drinks Piccolo from a bottle. Apart from that, she doesn't really feel the need to get to know her daughter. But Stella is not put off by her brusque manner.
