A young couple decided to start their life together by moving to a remote village. They encounter a very supportive community that does everything it can to make them feel welcome. In spite of that and although they feel the pressure to have a child soon, there is a latent threat. In fact, the village holds a secret that will change their minds. Rural life is no longer idyllic.

Takuya and Mamoru are two young men from disadvantaged backgrounds who've been sucked into Japan's criminal underworld. Their job involves posing as women on social media to exploit isolated men and sell their personal identities. When they're not working, they're just ordinary friends who like hanging out together and sometimes letting loose. Osamu Kogure is a young man who's out of prison and lives in poverty in an abandoned house, working odd jobs to survive. One day, his abusive prison senpai Inui arrives to boss him around. Inui makes Osamu reveal the location of his old girlfriend Koyuki, who he kidnaps, beats and rapes. When a robbery that Inui has planned goes wrong, Osamu's left arm is cut off. Koyuki takes him to a yakuza-affiliated doctor who treats him with an experimental medicine that regenerates his arm back as a monstrous beast hand that makes him lose control. Osamu and Koyuki try to start a new life together, but their past won't leave them alone.

The story centers on Yoshio, a poor and struggling manga artist who lives in Kitamachi. He is sent by Oyaji, the landlord of his apartment who is also engaged in other shady businesses, to help a novelist called Imori move in, and meets a recently-divorced woman named Fukuko. Yoshio is immediately bewitched by her beauty, even though she is already seeing someone else. In the meantime, Imori establishes an advertising agency, borrowing the name of a larger agency from the wealthier Minamicho, in order to sell his novel. Yoshio ends up helping with Imori's efforts, and somehow Imori and Fukuko come to live together with Yoshio.
