There’s a Naples of the imagination and there’s the real city: the city of fiction and the one with its tales of a past very much alive. Massimilano Gallo’s directorial debut, La salita, is a film about a little-known anecdote from the life of Eduardo De Filippo, featuring a Nisida very different from the image it has in the series Mare fuori, yet Gallo’s take on prison and women behind bars is just as contemporary. A father, immersed in a difficult divorce process, embarks on a dangerous mission when his children disappear from their isolated country house.

Pasquale Lojacono moves into a large flat with his wife Maria following a special agreement with the owner: in exchange for free accommodation, Pasquale must dispel rumours that the house is haunted by ghosts. The protagonist begins to receive regular sums of money from spirits who, according to him, are particularly generous and supportive towards him. As time goes by, however, it turns out that the source of his fortune is a ghost who, having become Maria's lover, wants to silence him and plan an escape with her. Added to this unusual love triangle are the doorman, his sister and the lover's family, each of whom, in their own way, exploits the rumours of ghosts for their own gain under the gaze of Professor Santanna, who observes and comments on the inexplicable events with Pasquale from the window of the flat opposite.

The short film, marking the 800th anniversary of Europe’s first secular university, offers a distinctive portrayal of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II. A ruler with multiple crowns, Frederick’s tumultuous relationship with the papacy led to three excommunications. FII - LO STUPORE DEL MONDO seeks to capture Frederick’s essence through an animated and colourful portrayal.
