Klemens Kurz is a family man, a successful meteorologist - and autistic. He has Asperger's Syndrome, which means he takes everything literally, is a logic genius and has a special relationship with his emotions. When he was offered an attractive job for a research project in Svalbard in the Arctic, he quickly told his two teenage kids, Nelli and Carlo, that they were going to the far north. And Grandpa Arthur should come along too. No option for the three, a plan has to be found! In order to dissuade Father Klemens from his plan, the teenagers try to find a wife for him by all means of modern online dating. Long-time friends Paul and Fiete are two traditional fishermen in a rapidly changing world. However, when Paul finds out by chance one day that Fiete, not he, is the biological father of his son Piet, their close friendship suddenly seems to come to an abrupt end. From then on, the two of them come up with more and more nasty things to make life difficult for the other. Piet, who has returned to his home country and is completely unaware of the situation, ends up in the middle of this petty war.

Much to the chagrin of his neighbor Marlies Gottlieb, who lives in seclusion on her property, alone with herself and her songbirds. Mikkel is now disturbing her peace. Not only is he looking for a buyer for his house and hires Marlies' daughter Lia, of all people, who is an estate agent, but in the best Swedish tradition of 'everyman's right', he also wants to reopen the old riverside path, which Marlies had closed years ago, to the general public.
