The new waitress at the Gasthof zur Post is an object of desire for all men in the village.

Abram returns to his small village and although his repairing skills are needed, people's suspicion about his sexual preferences make his life hard.

For decades, the villagers of Haselbach have argued and fought with those of Banzing. But this should finally come to an end: The local councillors decide to reconcile the two villages and the mayors want to seal the peace by marrying off their children. They agree that they don't want to marry each other and that their fathers are only acting out of greed. When they decide to revolt against their elders, they are unexpectedly supported by a "stranger" who brings the reason for the dispute between Haselbach and Banzing out of the dark: the Holledauer Schimmel. Plots are forged, tender bonds of love are forged and in the end everyone ends up where they belong.

This is how the author sees this annual hustle and bustle and weaves an equally bizarre event around it, which focuses on the love of a Munich exterminator for the daughter of a Saxon high school teacher. The angry pedagogue then sends the spoiled flail back to his beloved Bavarian village. The long-suffering mother persuades the rector to resume her reforming boy at the Latin school. Everything seems to be working out for the better, but the upcoming marriage of his sister Ännchen with the Berlin beer brewer Karl Schultheiss presents Ludwig with new challenges.

The villagers of Mauth are notorious for their stinginess. They are so thrifty that they can't even afford an organ for their church. When the mayor of Mauth goes to a wedding in the neighboring village, he attracts the ridicule of the entire pub society. Furious, he goes home and suggests to the local council that they should at least buy an organ to avert the ridicule from the village.
