Eighty-year-old Tadeusz lives a quiet life as a pensioner with his wife Helena. After years of working in a hospital, he wants to enjoy old age and his charming house with a garden, where they soon plan to hold their beloved granddaughter’s wedding. The idyll is shattered by a tragic car accident that casts a shadow over his marriage and reveals cracks in his relationship with his son.

Tomek, a fresh banking graduate, moves to the big city to start his adult life with a bang. He dreams of spectacular success, thanks to which he will get his ex-girlfriend back. He rents a room in an old, crumbling house, inhabited by a group of eccentrics. A young man knocks on the door of an old boarding house, hoping to rent a room. The owner answers the door in her bathrobe. She is hoping to get rid of the unexpected guest, but when she learns that he might be a prospective lodger, she agrees to show him around. The house is rather shabby and it keeps getting weirder with each room they see and each boarder they meet… The young man wants out, but leaving turns out to be pretty hard.

Summer of 1945. A temporary orphanage is established in an abandoned palace surrounded by forests for the eight children liberated from the Gross-Rosen camp. Hanka, also a former inmate, becomes their guardian. After the atrocities of the camp, the protagonists slowly begin to regain what is left of their childhood but the horror returns quickly. Camp Alsatians roam the forests around. Released by the SS earlier on, they have gone feral and are starving. Looking for food they besiege the palace. The children are terrified and their camp survival instinct is triggered.
