This movie doesn't have any coherent plot. It's the portrait of the lives of different people in the hard years of post-war in Spain (the 40's), and how they manage to survive in a country desolated by the war. Like other films: La colmena or Roma (Fellini) it shows us lots of characters and some moments of their lives.

Galicia (Spain), 50s. Hugo, a failed writer, whose works rejects and over his publishing because they lack credibility, maintains relationships with Ivon, a beautiful young chorus girl, obsessed with stop work, marry and live without financial burdens. Hugo has a son, Carlos, about the age of Ivon, that in addition to her father steal a large inheritance, falls in love for the young. But on Carlos, young, rich and handsome, hangs a mystery ... Remake of the film "Los peces rojos", 1955.

An Argentinean family living in Spain has their lives rocked when a famous author from their home country claims that their daughter is actually his granddaughter who was lost during a war.

After his son dies, an elderly man comes back to Spain from the US and hopes to find out which of his granddaughters is true, and which one is bastard.
