Manolete

Manuel, a young man of eighteen, arrives in Madrid with the illusion of being a bullfighter. On arrival he meets Juan a ruined singer in his fifties who, along with his friend Lola, will help the boy to get a chance to bullfight in a probe at the estate of a famous businessman.

The film evokes all the aspects of bullfighting - its history, the bulls, the toreros, the arena, the audience - and involves numerous matadors from the era.

This late 1940s film pays tribute to Manolete, one of the great Spanish bullfighters and one whose death after being gored in 1947 remains as one of the sport's iconic moments.
