Tachibana Shuji (Kazuki Namioka), leader of the Tachibana-gumi under the Anzai-gumi, is a unique figure—a university graduate turned yakuza. Known as the youngest leader in the Anzai-gumi, he was inspired by Anzai Takashi (Koichi Iwaki), the group's boss, and chose the yakuza path, aiming to be like him. Trouble arises when a thug from the Otsuru Family deals drugs in Anzai-gumi’s territory, violating their rules and sparking conflict. As tensions with the Otsuru Family threaten war, internal rifts form within the Anzai-gumi. Meanwhile, Anzai is set to be released from prison after 13 years, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown.

A drug deal within Anzai-gumi's territory sparks conflict with the Otsuru Family, leading to the death of the group's secretary, Daimura (Toshiyuki Nagashima). Driven by vengeance, the Daimura-gumi is determined to retaliate. Their lieutenant, Kawabe (Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi), captures and tortures a member of the Otsuru Family, uncovering that the mastermind behind the chaos is Higashio (Eiichi Furui), Anzai-gumi’s underboss. Enraged, Kawabe prepares for revenge. However, war has already begun. Otsuru Family attacks claim the lives of many young Anzai-gumi members. Amidst the bloodshed, Tachibana (Kazuki Namioka) receives crucial words from Boss Anzai (Koichi Iwaki) about what it truly means to live as a yakuza.

Despite his fearsome reputation, he upholds the yakuza code of honor, solving troubles with his own hands. When Detective Kakuta (Hiroyuki Watanabe) tells him about scams targeting the elderly, Seigō orders an investigation, uncovering that someone within his clan is involved, along with illegal drug trades. “The Ryūmonji Clan must remain noble thieves—protecting the weak.” As his dragon tattoo comes alive, the legendary yakuza takes on modern-day evils!

With the death of Nobuhide Oriki (Tokuma Nishioka), a brutal succession battle erupts within the Oriki-gumi. By vote, Nobunaga (Hitoshi Ozawa) becomes second-generation boss, forcing his brother Nobuyuki into rebellion. In the bloody aftermath, Nobunaga kills both Nobuyuki and his relative Nobuyasu Iwasaki (Hitomi Matsuda). Tragedy deepens as his right-hand man Masahide Hirako (Jiro Okazaki) takes his own life, and his father-in-law Michizo Saimon (Shinzo Hotta) is assassinated in a coup. Now as boss, Nobunaga sets the underworld in motion once more: Ujiyasu Nanjo (Sansho Fukami) rises in Kanto, Motonari Mōriya (Shinichi Chiba) expands in Aki, and in Nagano the fated clash of Kenshin Uemura (Ryuji Harada) and Shingen Takebe (Shun Sugata) begins. But the greatest threat comes from Yoshimoto Imanishi (Naoya Makoto), leading the invasion of Owari. The “war of the elephant and the ant” is about to reach its endgame.

The fall of Yoshimoto Imanishi spreads Nobunaga Oriki’s (Hitoshi Ozawa) reputation across Japan. In Omi, he forges a brotherhood oath with Nagamasa Asakawa (Daisuke Nagakura), further extending the Oriki-gumi’s influence. Alarmed, National Police Agency Director Ichijo (Masahiko Tsugawa) orders their destruction. Meanwhile, Ieyasu Tokusawa (Yasukaze Motomiya) abandons the Imanishi-gumi, declaring independence as the Tokusawa-gumi. Upon learning this, Nobunaga extends his hand, joining forces with Tokusawa in pursuit of nationwide unification. Elsewhere, Yoshiaki Ashitaga (Kazuyoshi Ozawa), ousted from the Murohachi Alliance, seeks to rebuild it, turning to Shingen Takebe (Shun Sugata) for aid—but is coldly passed around. And from Fukui, Mitsuhide Akashi (Mikio osawa) of the Amakura-gumi moves the pieces of the board, pulling the Oriki-gumi into the next great upheaval.

The Oriki-gumi’s quest for Owari unification is fractured by a bloody succession feud between Nobunaga (Hitoshi Ozawa) and his younger brother Nobuyuki (Masaki Nishimori). Nobuyuki’s reckless schemes invite full-scale invasion from Yoshimoto Imanishi’s Suruga forces, with Ieyasu Tokusawa (Yasukaze Motomiya) spearheading their advance into eastern Owari. The crisis drives boss Nobuhide Oriki (Tokuma Nishioka) into a fatal illness, leaving the family leaderless. The Oriki-gumi now faces not only an external war but also internal strife over succession. Across Owari, tensions flare. Nobunaga’s blood relative, Nobuyasu Iwasaki (HitomiMatsuda) of the Iwasaki-gumi, makes his move. Michizo Saimon (Shinzo Hotta) pushes his Saimon-gumi from neighboring Mino. And lurking in the shadows, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police plot the downfall of the yakuza world itself. Thus, the underworld descends deeper into its own warring-states era.

27-year-old Yazaki Junpei has come back to his hometown of Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture for the first time in 10 years after working in Tokyo. As the grandson of the bad guy “Red Shirt” who was punished by Bocchan in Natsume Soseki’s novel Bocchan, he has hated this town which continued to be regarded with disdain, since childhood. An old man picks a quarrel with Junpei inside a streetcar as he heads to his parents’ home in Dogo. Could this man be the Bocchan who once acted violently with free abandon in Matsuyama!?
