The Shape of Things to Come

Jimena admires the perfection of her parents marriage. On the rooftop of a house in Lima Norte, Francia and Amelia come together for a conversation that goes beyond the everyday, sharing profound reflections amid the cracks of the Carabayllo district. Set in 1970 in a desert mining town in northern Chile, Mariola is a 17-year-old known in the town as Mario. Sporadic rains bring bursts of life to the driest place on Earth, and in the midst of this landscape, Mariola gets invited by a theatre company of travestis to travel to Lima, Peru. During the journey, Mariola begins to discover who she has always wanted to be. Upon returning to Chile, a new era of political and social change drives her to affirm their identity.

Lima, Peru, 1991. After years of fruitless efforts, a group of police officers finally find a lead on the whereabouts of Abimael Guzmán, the bloodthirsty leader of the communist terrorist gang Shining Path.
