Two young women, who live in a provincial town in Thessaly, come of age in their own unique ways. Through flirtations, unrequited love, sexual urges, misunderstandings, and excesses, the two friends quickly realize that their future lies far away from their provincial town. Armed with hope and dreams, they set off for the big city and its opportunities.

On the back staircases of a residential building, girls smoke hidden from their parents. They take off their clothes to prevent being denounced by the smell of smoke. Cora is 30 years old. She lives in the same building as the girls, and is stuck in an unhappy marriage. The woman catches the girls smoking. From then on, she begins her path towards freedom.

Then Lynn meets Japanese exchange student Koji, and, though they speak different languages and spend most of their time together in silence, the two soon become closer than she and David had ever been.

Fleeing a distressing family situation, Eiko, a very young girl, becomes an apprentice to Miyoharu, a veteran geisha. Both, determined to preserve their professional integrity, must face the selfishness and ambition of several petty people.
