Splitting Adam

During World War II, hard-luck farmer Colvis Nevels leaves his rural Kentucky home to take a factory job in bustling Detroit. Reluctantly accompanying Colvis is his long-suffering wife, Gertie, a talented woodcarver set in her traditional ways. When the perils of city life and Colvis' reckless squandering of money send the Nevels into precarious financial straits, Gertie starts a business making hand-carved dolls in order to provide for her family.

Hui-Yong is a childish father who has never played a role of father. One day, he realizes that he will die of cancer soon. He sets out to find his son with Seung-Cheol, a childhood friend, before he dies. The son is getting out of prison. He is reunited with his son for the first time in four years. But the son stares at him with cold eyes. This alludes to their journey, which will not be fair or easy.

In a shelter, two men face isolation and paranoia, while the whole outside world and society seem to have disappeared.

After many years, the two siblings Leo and Sara reunite for a final farewell dinner at the old family restaurant. One last chance to reflect on past memories before the restaurant is sold and closed for good.

Ommi Traki is an elderly woman who is active and involved in everything, organizing everything in her family and neighborhood. Surrounding her are her husband Salah, who contentedly observes the results of his wife's interventions with a mocking air; her spoiled son Ali, a young man she still considers a child; the maid Zouzou; and others. The film is inspired by the famous Tunisian television series of the same name from the 1970s.
