In 1970s Iran, Marjane 'Marji' Satrapi watches events through her young eyes and her idealistic family of a long dream being fulfilled of the hated Shah's defeat in the Iranian Revolution of 1979. However as Marji grows up, she witnesses first hand how the new Iran, now ruled by Islamic fundamentalists, has become a repressive tyranny on its own.

Successful writer/director Bernard Rougerie is at a creative dead end and decides to isolate himself from his wife in order to complete the script for his next film. Bernard moves into an apartment building whose tenants are in the midst of a revolt against their abusive landlord. Reluctant at first, he joins their cause and then becomes involved in an affair with young, unemployed resident Anne.

The movie revolves around a village in northern Kerala where political murders happen and In such one incident a guy is murdered mistaking him to be someone else. The families of both are left stranded and the film takes us through the incidents that happen to the children of both the family.

On Wednesday night, violent criminal Karl Schanz escapes from Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel prison. Disguised as a policeman, he manages to get to the apartment of young Christine, the wife of his best friend and former fellow inmate. Christine has no idea that Schanz has already stabbed a man to death during his escape. His goal: by taking the senior public prosecutor hostage, he wants to extort a million marks and a flight to South America...

Paul, a young idealist trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life, takes a job interviewing people for a marketing research firm. He moves in with aspiring pop singer Madeleine. Paul, however, is disillusioned by the growing commercialism in society, while Madeleine just wants to be successful. The story is told in a series of 15 unrelated vignettes.
