Harold Crick is a lonely IRS agent whose mundane existence is transformed when he hears a mysterious voice narrating his life.

Struggling to fit in in her new school and reeling from the fallout of her parent’s recent divorce, lonely LA high schooler Jane falls in with a rambunctious crowd, and becomes smitten with their charming drug supplier, Jamie.

Pili, a 51-year-old widow, unexpectedly leaves her home when, on her way, she is interrupted by the presence of an alien. After trying to tell her children about the extraterrestrial encounter and being ignored by them, she must investigate how to deal with this being. Meanwhile, she grapples with new desires to abandon the traditional life she has always known. In the end, she will have to confront and accept her deepest fears in order to fight this alien.

Marja tries to make ends meet by taking night shifts in a newspaper delivery service, apparently mostly carried out by foreigners. During the day, she sleeps and strives to raise her little daughter as best as she can. As a single parent and lacking a solid income, life is a constant struggle. Things are about to go from bad to worse when she meets her ex-boyfriend whose obsessive demeanour about whether he is the father of Marja´s child will drive her to the edge of sanity.

From the outside, the family looks faultless, a caring, home-proud mother, a bright daughter with an even brighter future and a slightly distant but otherwise perfect Dad. In reality, the Dad isn’t the Dad; he’s an actor paid by the Mum. His job is to help raise her daughter, begin there to give fatherly advice and provide a traditional upbringing. He does this for multiple families, but a needy client puts his secret at risk.
