Noise

A man who poured his life savings into a new apartment discovers its walls are full of disturbing noises, hostile neighbors and unsettling secrets.

His perfect home has just one flaw — The unrelenting noise from upstairs. For neighbors who refuse to listen, maybe fists will have to do the talking instead.

Jung-ah and her husband Hyeon-soo suffer sleepless nights from the passionate couple upstairs, Su-kyeong and Mr. Kim. Hoping to ease tensions, Jung-ah invites them to dinner — but polite chatter soon unravels into raw, boundary-breaking honesty, exposing hidden cracks in relationships with biting wit and emotional precision.

Nothing is more frightening, as the narrator points out, than a ‘time-rich nosy person’. Exhibit A is Ahn Geo-ul, who commits herself to social justice causes with terrifying tenacity. After temporarily renting a unit in the Baek-sae Apartment building, she discovers that a loud, hard to locate banging noise occurs from 4am every night, making the residents’ lives an insomniac hell – and so she determines to engage in her own disruption and to find the culprit of this acoustic assault, simultaneously eliminating her eccentric neighbours as suspects, and recruiting them to her cause.
