An irritable marketing executive, Neal Page, is heading home to Chicago for Thanksgiving when a number of delays force him to travel with a well meaning but overbearing shower curtain ring salesman, Del Griffith.

It's vacation time for outdoorsy Chicago man Chet Ripley, along with his wife, Connie, and their two kids, Buck and Ben. But a serene weekend of fishing at a Wisconsin lakeside cabin gets crashed by Connie's obnoxious brother-in-law, Roman Craig, his wife, Kate, and the couple's two daughters. As the excursion wears on, the Ripleys find themselves at odds with the stuffy Craig family.

The mayor of the small Bavarian village of Hirnkirchen runs a poorly performing inn with his two good-looking and very busy daughters. When advertising experts Bob and Bert Vogel arrive in the village, they promise the mayor that they will replace the dusty regulars with wealthy visitors from all over Germany. What follows is a turbulent vacation season which, thanks to the inn's attractive daughters, involves a lot of physical activity.

Charley has several dilemmas facing him at Christmas, all posed by his greedy, heartless landlord Noah and his family.

The storylines of Georgia and the hotel’s eclectic guests twist, turn, and come together, as they unexpectedly find friendship, love, and inspiration.
