The Starling Girl

Kaimook, a 25-year-old woman, recounts her past love with Wayu, a rival gang member of her brother. Six years ago, in a rural town plagued by gang conflicts, their paths crossed when Kaimook helped Wayu escape her brother’s pursuit. Despite knowing the risks, they secretly met in a dark alley, falling in love amid deep-seated hatred and past tragedies. Caught between family loyalty and forbidden love, they struggled to find a way out—uncertain if their love could ever overcome the weight of their divided worlds.

Italy, 1959. A ten-year-old boy called Guido enters a Catholic seminary, fascinated by the idea of becoming a priest. He quickly understands that in order to be a good seminarian he has to submit to an ascetic and unnatural training, consisting in mortification of the flesh, obsession with sin and repression of one's sexual instincts and desires. Guido finds himself up against a deeply hierarchical system, where strict observance of rules and blind obedience to superiors are taught. A system in which thinking for oneself is forbidden.

To finally gain her father's acceptance, transsexual Leonie decides to return masqueraded as a man to the world of her childhood: the funfair. Though even the old owner of the ghost train has something to hide.

In this short fiction film, Marie has been living in the midst of a nightmare since the accident of Bernard, her brother. Clinging excessively to this handicapped being, she wants to take charge of it. Étienne, her fiancé, has no taste for sacrifice. He reproaches Marie for languishing in her adolescence. Love will prevail. In a definitive gesture, Marie will free herself from the bonds that still held her back to her childhood.
